Johnny has had a bit of time to post here, but now it's my turn.
I thought everyone might be interested in what I've found to be difficult to adjust to since coming to the USA.
When Johnny, the kids and I got on the airplane in Kenya to fly to London, I was so frozen by the air conditioning I couldn't sleep. We haven't had AC for 2 1/5 years. It's taken me almost a week to get accustomed to it.
We traveled for 37 hours without stopping and had to adjust to an 8 hour time difference. The kids have been marvelous through it all. Many compliments came from fellow passengers who had no idea we had already been traveling for hours by vehicle and then an 8 hour connecting flight. I was quite pleased with their behavior. They were troopers.
It's actually been quite difficult for me to get over the jet lag and time change. I continually wake at 5am or so. But a week has officially passed, and I'm feeling better.
Another thing that has been something that takes me by surprise is turning on the tap to find hot water comes out! I'd really forgotten that was possible! Perhaps I'm a slow learner or I suppose it's just because I'm a creature of habit, but yesterday I accidentally burnt my hand forgetting that the water isn't just mildly warm from the sun heating the pipes.
