Forgotten
I visited a family this past week, that has been abandoned by society. Mary, a woman forced to care for her eight grandchildren, is on the bottom of the ladder of life.
She has no bank account. She does not have an electricity account. She does not even have running water in her house made of mud. Maybe you are thinking she lives in rural Africa? Nope she lives in Nakuru. The same place I live with my electricity that powers my TV, computer, video game system, fridge, and charges my mobile phone battery. I have 17,000 liters of water storage, so I tend to have water when I turn the tap on. The house we rent is big and mud is generally swept out.
Side by side. Kenya is a land of forgotten people.
Well, I have decided to remember and notice. I took this woman fuel for her stove and food to cook on it. I tried my best to convey love and to listen intently to her story. I did this to demonstrate the love of Jesus, and to show her that in God's Kingdom she is on the top, not the bottom.
She was coughing up blood so I arranged for her to get to the hospital. The diagnosis; pneumonia and bronchitis.
I will see to it that she gets the medication she needs, and we will help how we can with the 8 orphans she is now caring for.
The four other children are older and where not there when I visited.
