Good Friday
I was just reading through the crucifixion narrative in the Gospel of John looking for something to leap out at me to write about this morning.
What jumped was Nicodemus. You know he came to see Jesus once in the night for fear of what others would think of him. "Nicodemus, who had first come to Jesus at night, came now in broad daylight carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds." John 19:39 The Message
No more fear. No more shame. No more concern what others were thinking. He honored Jesus. He did not do this because he knew of the resurrection, but instead did this just because of what Jesus taught.
Often times when considering Jesus we emphasize his death and resurrection over what he taught. They both go hand in hand. In fact for Nicodemus the teachings and life of Jesus was powerful enough to transform him.
Father I pray that the teachings and life of Jesus can transform us. I also am thankful for his sacrifice and subsequent resurrection, which have had a tremendous impact on my life.
