Bear with me yet again as I give a brief introduction to the orphan care portion of our ministry. (For a family introduction click here, and to see what we do in the community click here.)
The first thing we need to make clear is that we do not run a typical or traditional orphanage. Warehousing children is not one of our goals.
Think about what makes an orphan an orphan. No mom and dad. So we replace what is missing, which is family.
I am dad and Kate (my wife) is mom. We have team members who function as mother and father figures as well, aunts and uncles, and brothers and sisters. We love them, cherish them, and care about their futures. Just like a good family.
Spend a day and night at our house and you will see a family. We fight, yell, cry, laugh, eat, drink, discuss school, boyfriends, and everything else that comes up.
Sure we are a big family, and have to stand in lines for food and showers, but we do it with love.
We have more information about the girls on our website, www.afutureandahope.net
Johnny Brooks, proud to be father to 11 girls and one boy.
