Makena means happy or joyful in Kikuyu. That was the name Kate was given by some friends during our first stay in Kenya, back in 1997. She liked it enough to save it for our first girl.
Makena is a happy child. She is full of creativity and routinely expresses it through drawings and other artistic venues.
Makena loves. She has fully embraced the African girls who have moved in with us, and her biological siblings. She is a wonderful daughter, and I know will grow into a beautiful woman.
I’m thankful that Makena is a part of our lives. I’m not sure we would be able to do what we do without her.
